On last year's December Preethi Kitchen Appliances, approached me and expressed their wish to send me their newly launched product, Preethi Touch Electric Pressure Cooker. I have always been a big fan of such electric pressure cooker since my stay abroad. There, I used to use a smaller version, as such electric pressure cooker is such a great kitchen appliance, which you can use to make any kind of one-pot meal, like slow-cooked soup, curries, rice items etc. No need to sauté the entire item in a pan and then pressure cook the rest. And in India, if you are running out of gas, then this is the savior.
I'm using Preethi products since 2009. And before reviewing this Electric Cooker, I've already reviewed their Food Processor last year.
How does it work?
Preethi Touch Electric Pressure Cooker comes in size of 6 litres. So it is enough, to cook for 10 people at a time. This product is user friendly and very easy to handle, No complicated functioning. The Preethi Touch Electric Pressure Cooker package includes a measuring cup and the volume of water required is mentioned in the accompanying booklet.
The cooking process is quite simple. There are 15 pre-sets available – tap on the menu button and then use the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons to navigate through the list.
Once you’re at your desired spot, pause for a few seconds – the cooker will beep thrice and begin cooking.
There are two phases to the cooking. The first few minutes of the cook are used to heat the water and build up pressure inside the vessel. Once the desired pressure level has been attained, the countdown timer starts.
You’ll get another set of beeps when the clock counts down to zero and the cooking process finishes. Once the cooking is complete, the cooker automatically switches to Keep Warm mode that can keep food warm for up to 4 hours post-cooking. Once you’re ready to open the cooker, you’ve to first set the pressure valve to release mode to expel steam and then twist the handle to release the lid.
The first thing I made in this cooker was, Chicken Shahi Korma for our guests. I placed the navigate button on the sauté mode, which is one of the fifteen present mode, and cooked the entire process in the vessel, which is aluminium made with non-stick coating, which is wide enough to stir easily. After adding all the ingredients, I placed the chicken korma on pressure, which is also with a navigate mode, named chicken, and it took the time to cook the chicken perfectly. And after the cooking, it beeped and I released the pressure and the cooker kept the chicken warm till the guests come for dinner.
