Benefits of Palm Oil:
Palm oil & palm kernel oil is not the same thing. While both originate from the same plant, palm kernel oil is extracted from the seed of the fruit. It provides different health benefits. Palm oil is 100% fat, half of which is saturated. It also contains vitamin E and red palm oil contains antioxidants called carotenoids, which your body can convert into vitamin A. In this study, people consumed either 25 ml (2 tablespoons) of olive oil or a hybrid palm oil daily. Based on a 15% drop in LDL cholesterol in both groups, researchers suggested this palm oil could be called "the tropical equivalent of olive oil" . However, a controlled study in 1995 suggested that palm oil might help slow disease progression in people with established heart disease. Palm oil can help improve vitamin A status in people who are deficient or at risk of deficiency. Studies in pregnant women in developing countries have shown that consuming red palm oil increases vitamin A levels in their blood, as well as in their breastfeed infants.
After the presentation, all the bloggers were divided into small teams and then began the food hunt activity. All the teams were handed over a clue card which had the hint for the first restaurant.
Teams guessed the name and reached 10 Asia Kitchen and there the activity was Ice Cream Relay. There were 4-5 items like Vanilla ice cream, Nutella, Ferraro Roche chocolate, Hide and Seek Biscuit and Soulful crunches. All the ingredients had to be mixed in a bowl and supposed to be finished by the entire team. All the above ingredients used had Palm Oil, this was an eye opener to most of the bloggers.
Next clue card took them to Tiki shack and there the activity was Palm oil quiz. There were some 10-15 questions given and we had to google the correct answer. All the questions asked were discussed by Dr Bhavna in her presentation.
Next Clue card took them to Urban Asia and the activity was Salad making contest. Lot of ingredients were provided and for dressing, we had to use Palm Oil. It turned out to be very good as Palm oil is odorless and Tasteless, it retains the taste of the food where used raw or for direct cooking.
Next Cue card took them to Eat India Company and the activity was Blindfold Food Tasting. We were blindfolded and had to taste a dish which was prepared and then write down the ingredients. Palm oil was one of the main ingredient which was used for cooking.
Post this, we all returned to Smoky Pitara for some photo session, Prize distribution followed by Sumptuous lunch spread.
After attending the event my point of view on using Palm oil has changed into positive way, yes we should know every details about any product before jump into a conclusion. This oil has not only many health benefits, but also the palm oil industry has food security, land use efficiency. Hope to add this oil in our daily cooking without any hesitations. I'm feeling honored to be part of this wonderful event.
